Maggie Grace is an American actress born Margaret Grace Denig in 1983. Her best-known roles include Shannon Rutherford, a character in ABC's Lost series, and Kim Mills from the Taken trilogy. Originally from Worthington Ohio, she dropped out of high school in order to relocate into Los Angeles with her mother following her divorce from her parents. She was struggling to make ends meet and was offered her first part in the acting world in the film Rachel's Room's main character. Her performance as Martha Moxley, a 15-year-old victim of murder in the T.V. film Murder in Greenwich in 2002, earned her nominations for a Young Artist Award. In 2004 Grace was chosen to play Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost on which she acted as a principal cast member for the first two seasons. She was also awarded an Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the ensemble cast. Grace wanted to focus on film after playing opposite Tom Welling's character in The Fog, in 2005. The actress was in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club (both 2007) and opposite Liam Neeson as Kim Mills in Taken in the year 2008. In 2008, she reprised the role Taken 2 (2013) and Taken 3 (2015). The actress also appeared in Alice as Alice in Malice in Wonderland which is an updated adaptation that the Lewis Carroll novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace reprised the role of Shannon in two more episodes of Lost as well as the show's finale. She also appeared in the sixth season of Californication. She plays Faith a groupie and a muse to the stars who captures the attention of Hank Moody played by David Duchovny. Gyllenhaal is a part of the family, and is the older cousin of Jake Gyllenhaal. As a teenager, she began to work in small roles for her father. She also appeared in Donnie Darko with her brother. Her next roles were in Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, both 2002 and Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal was nominated for the Golden Globe Award in both the romantic comedy Sherrybaby (2005) as well as the romantic comedy Secretary (2002). The two films received acclaim from critics. Following a string of commercially successful movies in 2006, including World Trade Center she received more attention for her role as Rachel Dawes in the superhero film The Dark Knight (2008). After her successful performance as a mother who is not married of Crazy Heart (2009), she was awarded an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. The following years, she starred in comedies as well as dramatic movies: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. In addition, she played an Secret Service Agent in White House Down, an action-packed thriller released in 2013, a musician in Frank (2014) as well as the lead role in The Kindergarten Teacher, a drama released in the year 2018. Gyllenhaal began her professional career as a screenwriter and director in 2021, when she directed and wrote the psychological thriller The Lost Daughter. The film was awarded Best Screenplay at The Venice International Film Festival, and was also nominated for the Academy Award.
